On Friday, July 5th, 2024, I got up at 9:30 a.m. when my first class had already begun, so I skipped the class, even though there was an exam.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After the final class of the day, I headed to <\/span>Main Street-Science World Station to walk along a promenade by False Creek. From the road, we can enjoy the stunning view consisting of mountains, the harbor, and buildings in downtown Vancouver.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The reason I went there was related to a social issue in Vancouver.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Actually, <\/span>this view is protected by the View Protection Guidelines, which are guidelines that the city of Vancouver established in 1989 to protect views from some points, including this spot. Thanks to these guidelines, development and building design in downtown Vancouver are regulated, allowing us to enjoy these stunning mountains.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

However, this spectacular view might be destroyed in the future because Vancouver city staff recommended changing the guidelines and wrote a report detailing these changes. The protected area regarding the view from Olympic Village Shipyard will shrink, which means developers will be able to construct additional buildings in downtown and obstruct the view.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The purpose of the report is to encourage the development of residential buildings in downtown Vancouver and address the housing issue. According to CBC, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the report will go to council on July 10th and is expected to pass.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
