On Tuesday, August 6th, 2024, I got up at 7:00 a.m. PST and left my house at 7:50 a.m. to go to my language school.<\/span><\/p>\n

After classes, I visited a pedestrian scramble crossing that was recently implemented in downtown Vancouver. I don\u2019t know of any other scramble crossings in Vancouver besides this one. As a person from Japan, the country with the most famous scramble crossing in the world, it was impossible for me to ignore.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Although I didn\u2019t think that the new crossing allowed people to move much faster than before, it created a bustling yet peaceful atmosphere.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One surprising fact was that a pedestrian push button was installed there. My understanding is that a button is effective for interactions where there are few pedestrians because it allows cars to avoid waiting for a signal for a long time when nobody is present.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, there are always people walking around this scramble crossing, which means the push button there seems unnecessary. Similar situations can be found at other crossings in Vancouver, which is a kind of culture shock for me.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
