On Friday, October 25th, 2024, I got up around 9:00 a.m. PST and left my house at 11:00 a.m. to go to UBC. I visited to meet with a friend who is a UBC student. I wanted to hear about his recent trip to Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After he introduced me to the university buildings, we had lunch at a Japanese restaurant on campus. While eating <\/span>mazesoba<\/span><\/i>, we chatted mainly about his insights from his travels.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He traveled to Japan this August and visited Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, and Kyoto. For example, he said that Yokohama\u2019s Chinatown doesn\u2019t feel authentic because it only has restaurants and no residential buildings. I agree with his opinion. As a side note, he also mentioned that Vancouver\u2019s Chinatown feels the same way.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What interested me was his observation that Japanese people tend to be more fashionable than people in Vancouver. I also believe that Japanese people, especially those living in cities, really care about their appearance.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As for food, he became a fan of <\/span>soba<\/span><\/i>. The summer season encouraged him to enjoy cold <\/span>soba<\/span><\/i>. I wish Marugame Udon in Vancouver would serve <\/span>soba<\/span><\/i> as well as <\/span>udon<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
