On Saturday, February 1st, 2025, I got up at 11:00 p.m. PST and left home with my host mother for the Lunar New Year event.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The event appeared to be primarily for Chinese Canadians, as Lunar New Year is celebrated in China. Interestingly, the venue was the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre, a facility for Japanese Canadians.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My host mother, her friend, and I sat in the Centre’s hall. While I had expected to see traditional Chinese performances, we, along with hundreds of other attendees, spent considerable time listening to politicians’ speeches. This was understandable as Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP) was involved in the event. I had to leave midway for Japanese archery practice, missing the dragon dance that followed the speeches.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just after leaving, I spotted a bird soaring in the distance, immediately sensing it might be a raptor. Taking photos, I identified it as a Bald Eagle, recognizable by its white head – the national bird of the United States. It was the most impressive bird I’d seen in Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shortly after, another raptor appeared overhead. Based on my photos, it had a dark neck, suggesting it was a young Bald Eagle. I felt fortunate to have spotted two raptors in one day.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
