On Friday, February 7th, 2025, I got up at 4:30 a.m. PST and stayed home all day.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At home, as I did yesterday, I continued researching statistical data about Indigenous peoples in Canada. As I mentioned in a previous article on this blog, there are three distinct groups: First Nations, Inuit, and M\u00e9tis.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

To understand the distribution of each group by province across the country, I used the 2021 Census of Population from the Government of Canada’s website and created pie charts representing each group\u2019s population by province, as shown in the following map. The larger the bubble size, the higher the population.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One of the first things that stands out on the map is that First Nations have the largest population. M\u00e9tis also make up a significant portion. Although the percentage of Inuit doesn\u2019t stand out in most provinces, there is one exception\u2014Nunavut. The map shows that almost all Indigenous people there are Inuit.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Government of Canada, \u201cInuit have lived in Nunavut for thousands of years, and today they make up 85 percent of our Nunavut population.\u201d If I hadn\u2019t researched this statistical data, I wouldn\u2019t have paid much attention to Nunavut. Even though I’ve never been there, I still learned a little about it, which is one of the most interesting aspects of statistical data.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
