1:30 p.m., an earthquake occurred, causing my home to shake. It was the first time I had felt an earthquake since coming to Canada. Based on my own sense, the shaking felt equivalent to a Japanese seismic intensity scale of 2 or 3, and the vibrations lasted for about 30 seconds. The final match took place last night in Boston, United States, where Canada defeated the U.S. with an overtime goal scored by Connor McDavid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reading articles about the match helped me understand why it was such a remarkable event. First, Canada and the U.S. have a long-standing rivalry in this sport. Additionally, political tensions sparked by Donald Trump fueled Canadian patriotism. Finally, McDavid, a Canadian superstar, delivered a dramatic game-winning goal, bringing this story to a spectacular conclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the most interesting aspects was that the 2010 Olympic final in Vancouver is regarded as a historic moment in Canadian ice hockey. In that game, Canada faced the U.S., and Sidney Crosby, the captain of the national team for the 4 Nations Face-Off, scored the overtime goal that secured the gold medal for Canada\u2014just as McDavid did last night.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Personally, I see parallels between these memorable moments in 2010 and last night\u2019s game and recent baseball history in Japan. In the 2009 World Baseball Classic final, Yu Darvish closed the game, and in the 2023 tournament, he played a key role as a veteran leader for the national team. As nearly all Japanese people know, Shohei Ohtani, Japan\u2019s young superstar, closed the final of the 2023 World Baseball Classic against the United States.
