On Monday, March 24th, 2025, I got up around 7:30 a.m. PDT. In the afternoon, I went shopping at a mall in Metrotown before joining my regular Japanese archery practice, as I do on Mondays.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Although my trip to Edmonton had already ended, I reflected on the things that impressed me during my visit.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On the second and third days of the trip, I walked along the North Saskatchewan River, which flows just outside downtown Edmonton. Parks stretch along both banks of the river, forming a network collectively known as the River Valley Parks.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As the name suggests, the North Saskatchewan River runs through the bottom of a valley, while downtown Edmonton, with its skyscrapers, is built on the higher ground above. Walking along the opposite bank from downtown, I enjoyed a unique view\u2014from the cliffs and natural scenery along the river to the cluster of buildings in the city center.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Where there is a river in a city, there must also be bridges crossing it. Bridges serve not only as transportation routes but also as works of art, and Edmonton is no exception. For instance, the Walterdale Bridge, a white through arch bridge, and the Tawatin\u00e2 Bridge, an extradosed bridge, stand out. Both feature wide pedestrian walkways separated from vehicle or train lanes, allowing me to relax and comfortably take in the views.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Speaking of public facilities, I came across a unique observation deck on the riverbank. The Frederick G. Todd Lookout extends outward from a cliff, offering a refreshing and panoramic view. I had never seen a deck quite like it before.<\/span><\/p>\n

These public facilities suggest that the city prioritizes creating spaces where people can enjoy outdoor activities. I found similar design principles in Vancouver\u2019s parks as well.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
