On Saturday, March 22nd, 2025, I got up at 7:30 a.m. and boarded a bus in Edmonton at 3:00 p.m. MDT to head to Calgary, where I transferred to another bus bound for Vancouver. Before leaving Edmonton, I explored downtown and visited some cultural facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Royal Alberta Museum<\/strong><\/p>\n

I visited the Royal Alberta Museum in downtown Edmonton. Although I hadn\u2019t planned to see any specific exhibition, the wide variety and sheer number of displays were overwhelming. The museum features both natural and cultural exhibits related to Alberta, including topics such as Indigenous peoples in Alberta, the Edmonton Oilers, the Ice Age, and mountain plants.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One section that excited the kids was the Bug Gallery. It showcased a bunch of fascinating bugs with unusual bodies, such as tarantulas. The bugs caught not only the kids\u2019 attention but mine too.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The building itself is spacious, and the interior is relatively simple and not too eccentric. It seemed designed to make everyone, including families, feel comfortable.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Art Gallery of Alberta and Stanley A. Milner Library<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unlike the museum I just mentioned, the Art Gallery of Alberta features an unusual exterior. Parts of the gallery\u2019s walls are tilted rather than vertical, and silver, curved structures protrude from the building.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

These striking features include the entrance atrium and staircases. Just like the outside, the inside of these areas is also unconventional, raising my expectations for something special in the exhibition rooms. I actually found some interesting exhibits there, such as paintings and large models made from LEGO elements.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Near the gallery, there is another unique building\u2014the Stanley A. Milner Library\u2014located right in front of an LRT station. Its long, slanted walls make it striking.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Some of the library\u2019s rooms were different from what quiet libraries usually offer. Near the entrance, there was a large display that grabbed the attention of small kids. There was also a room called “Gamerspace,” which seemed to be for playing video and computer games, and it was being used by adults. I got the impression that the facility functioned more as a community hub that welcomed a range of activities, rather than just being a library.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
