I left home to go to a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">kyudojo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a place where people practice Japanese archery, located in my neighborhood.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As with yesterday, I practiced Japanese archery there in the afternoon. I didn\u2019t see anyone else during practice, neither yesterday nor today. It reminded me of a dojo on Yakushima Island, where I used to practice many times alone\u2014unlike dojos in urban areas of Japan, which tend to be more crowded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One unique aspect of the dojo I practiced at today was that I didn\u2019t need to fully open the shutters in order to shoot arrows from inside the building toward the targets outside. I only opened about 10% of the shutter area facing the targets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I assume this dojo was designed to adapt to Nagano\u2019s cold and harsh winters by minimizing the open space through which arrows fly, helping to keep the interior as warm as possible.
