On Thursday, May 15th, 2025, I got up at 10:30 a.m. and left home in the evening to walk to the Kanagawa Prefectural Library.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Since I was tired of doing my tasks at home, I visited the library to work on a computer. Until today, I had never been to the new building, which opened in 2022, although I had visited the former Kanagawa Prefectural Library building before.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As I walked through each floor, I realized that this library prioritizes providing space for reading, working, and studying over storing a large number of books. It has a large amount of seating relative to its overall area, and indeed, many people\u2014including local students\u2014were reading or studying there.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What impressed me was not just the number of seats, but also their variety. The library offers several types of spaces: long tables near bookshelves for individual study, private rooms for more focused work, and designated areas where users are allowed to eat and drink.<\/p>\n

The old building of the Kanagawa Prefectural Library was designed by Kunio Maekawa, a renowned architect in Japan. According to the library’s website, the former building will be renovated and reopened in a few years.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
