On Saturday, May 17th, 2025, I got up around 12:30 p.m. and left home with my father in the evening to visit Shinoharahachiman Shrine in Yokohama.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One thing I noticed at the ancient shrine was the large number of signs. Each sign stood next to a tall tree\u2014such as a ginkgo, camphor tree, or Japanese zelkova\u2014and indicated that the tree had been designated as a symbolic and historic tree by the City of Yokohama.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the city\u2019s website, more than 1,000 trees across Yokohama have been designated as symbolic and historic trees. Speaking of ginkgo trees, 182 of them have received this designation. Once a tree is designated, the costs for diagnosis, treatment, and maintenance are subsidized.<\/span><\/p>\n

The city also publishes a list of these trees. The list shows that most of them are located at shrines or temples, and surprisingly, some are even found in private residences.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
