On Saturday, June 14th, 2025, I got up around noon and left home in the evening to visit Kishine Park in Yokohama.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Japanese mallotus was blooming near a pond in the park.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a square of the park, a Persian silk tree was covered in flowers. Looking back at previous posts on this blog, I noticed that the same species had bloomed on Yakushima Island in June as well, while a similar tree of what is probably the same species was flowering in Vancouver in September.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What stands out most among the flowers of the Persian silk tree are its stamens, not its petals. Japanese mallotus doesn\u2019t have petals at all. These flowers show that petals are not always necessary to catch our attention.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
