On Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, I got up at 7:00 a.m. PDT and visited Queensborough, a neighborhood in New Westminster, in the evening for a walk.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The area is located between two rivers, the Fraser River and the Annacis Channel. I walked across a bridge over the Fraser River from 22nd Street Station to enter the district, and later visited another bridge over the Annacis Channel. From both bridges, I could see high-rise residential buildings near New Westminster Station glowing in the setting sun.<\/span><\/p>\n

Branches of a tree, possibly a red alder, stretched out over the Annacis Channel. Although I had seen green cones of alders before, it was the first time I learned the name \u201calder.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What struck me in Queensborough was how often I came across people who seemed to be of Indian background. The distinctive gurdwara, a Sikh temple, stood out in the area. Although I already knew that Vancouver has many immigrants from India, walking there made me feel it even more strongly.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
