On Tuesday, September 9th, 2025, I got up at 1:00 p.m. PDT. At night, I headed to an ice rink at the Rosemary Brown Recreation Centre in Burnaby, since there was a public skate scheduled between 6:00 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Although I had skated at a small rink in downtown Vancouver before, I had never been to a full-size rink. Before going there today, I was worried I might feel awkward, since I expected it to be busy with many experienced skaters and only a few beginners like me.<\/span><\/p>\n

What I actually found was that it was less crowded than I had expected. While many skillful skaters were enjoying themselves, few of them were skating intensely, so I felt the risk of crashing into someone was low.<\/span><\/p>\n

The building has two rinks, and ice hockey players were practicing hard on the rink I didn\u2019t use. Having multiple rinks reduces the number of people on each one. In addition, Metro Vancouver has many skating facilities, which also helps prevent local skaters from crowding into a single rink.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
