On Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, I got up at 8:00 a.m. PST. Like every Tuesday, I practiced ice skating around noon.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was my first time using my own pair of ice skates, which I had purchased at a store for 95 CAD. The skates are designed for recreational use, not for ice hockey or figure skating. Since I care more about the fit than the design or intended purpose, I tried on many pairs before deciding which ones to buy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Generally speaking, having your own skates is better for performance than using rental ones, so I was excited to try them on the ice and see how they compared to the rental skates I had been using.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, after skating with the new pair, I didn\u2019t actually find them more comfortable than the rentals. Although the fit was satisfying, I struggled with stopping on the ice, especially with my right foot. This suggested that the blade on my right skate wasn\u2019t very sharp.
