現地時間2024年9月7日（土）、15時に起きた。15時半ごろに家を出た。
弓道の練習に向かったのだが、練習場に行くことができなかった。バスのダイヤが乱れていたからだ。私がバス停で30分ほど待って、ようやくバスが来た。練習に行くには遅すぎたので、乗車せずに帰宅した。
バンクーバーのバスが遅れるのは珍しくない。とは言え、これほど大幅な遅延を経験するのは今日が初めてだ。
ダイヤの乱れの理由を調べるため、バスの運営会社のウェブサイトを見てみた。複数の便が渋滞によってキャンセルになったそうだ。事故や天候以外の理由でバスの便が減るなんて、私のなかの常識を逸脱している。
On Saturday, September 7th, 2024, I got up at 3:00 p.m. PST and left my house at 3:30 p.m. to head to Japanese archery practice.
However, I couldn’t go to the gym where the practice takes place because the bus I was waiting for didn’t arrive at the bus stop on time. After waiting at the bus stop for about 30 minutes, the bus finally arrived. By then, it was too late for me to go to practice, so I didn’t take it.
Buses in Vancouver are well-known for being late, but I’ve never experienced such a long delay before.
According to the website of the company that manages the public transportation system here, buses were cancelled due to traffic. I didn’t know that public transportation could be cancelled for reasons other than accidents or weather.
