現地時間2024年12月28日（土）、正午ごろに起床した。昼過ぎに家を出た。
弓道の練習に行く前、弓道クラブのメンバーである夫婦と昼食を食べた。夫婦の赤ちゃんも一緒だった。場所は、ニューウェストミンスターのレストラン「Angelina’s Dutch Corner」だ。
店の人気メニューと思しき、パンケーキを注文した。薄い生地の上にイチゴが載っており、美味しかった。
トッピングはアイスクリーム。注文時にアイスクリームかホイップクリームのどちらを選ぶか店員が尋ねていたようだが、私はその言葉がなかなか聞き取れず、あまりよく考えずにアイスクリームを選んでしまった。この寒い季節に食べるべきではなかったと後悔している。
昼食後、夫婦の車に乗せてもらい弓道の練習に向かった。車中、日本で人気のスポーツについて話した。アメリカンフットボールのリーグ「NFL」はアイスホッケーのリーグ「NHL」より人気があると、私が教えると、友人はとても驚いていた。個人的には、そこまで驚く話ではないと思っていたが、カナダ人からすると意外なのかもしれない。
On Saturday, December 28th, 2024, I woke up around noon PST and left home in the afternoon.
Before Japanese archery practice, I had lunch with members of the Japanese archery club and their infant at a restaurant in New Westminster.
I ordered a strawberry pancake, a popular item at Angelina’s Dutch Corner. The pancake was thin and delicious, but I regretted choosing ice cream as a topping—it was too cold for the season. The server may have asked whether I preferred ice cream or whipped cream, but I didn’t catch her question clearly, so I couldn’t properly consider my options.
After an enjoyable lunch, I rode with my dining companions to Japanese archery practice. During the drive, we discussed popular sports in Japan. One friend was surprised to learn that the NFL is more popular than the NHL. While this is commonplace to me, it might be unexpected for Canadians.
