現地時間2025年3月23日（日）、カルガリーからバンクーバーへのバス移動し、ほとんど眠れないまま午前11時ごろ、バンクーバーに到着した。パシフィック・セントラル駅近くでバスを下車。スカイトレインに乗ってニューウェストミンスターの自宅へ戻った。
エドモントンでの滞在はわずか4日間。それでも、バンクーバーとの違いをいくつか感じた。
明らかな違いの1つが天候だ。エドモントンはバンクーバーより寒かった。滞在中は一度も雨が降らなかった一方、バンクーバーに帰ってきた日、自宅の最寄駅から家までの道中は雨が降っていた。ホストマザーによると、自分がエドモントンにいる間も、バンクーバーでは雨が降っていたらしい。
もう1つ気付いたのは違いは、人について。バンクーバーでは街を歩いているとアジア系の人をよく見かけるが、エドモントンではあまり見かけなかった。ホームレスについても同様の傾向があり、エドモントンの方が比較的少なかった印象だ。
車について言えば、エドモントンでテスラの車をほとんど見かけなかった。バンクーバーではよく目にする。この違いを生んでいる原因は分からないものの、なんだか面白い。
On Sunday, March 23rd, 2025, I didn’t sleep much during the bus trip from Calgary to Vancouver and arrived in Vancouver around 11:00 a.m. PDT. After getting off near Pacific Central Station, I took the SkyTrain back home to New Westminster.
Although I stayed in Edmonton for only four days, I noticed some differences between Vancouver and Edmonton.
One of the most obvious differences was the weather. Edmonton was colder than Vancouver, and it didn’t rain at all while I was there. In contrast, it was raining when I walked home from New Westminster Station, and my host mother told me that it had rained in Vancouver at times while I was in Edmonton.
Another difference I noticed was the people. In Vancouver, we often see people of Asian descent and homeless individuals on the streets, but in Edmonton, I saw fewer Asian-looking people and fewer homeless people.
Regarding cars on the road, I rarely saw Tesla cars in Edmonton, whereas they are quite common in Vancouver. I’m not sure what causes this significant difference, but I find it interesting.
