2025年4月8日（火）、午前8時ごろに起きた。朝、大阪市内のホテルを出て、JR大阪駅周辺を歩いた。
訪れた場所の1つが、「うめきた」地区。駅のすぐ北に位置する大規模再開発区域だ。
開発全体はまだ完成していないものの、公園やいくつかの建物が先行してオープンした。ここの公園は特に注目を浴びている。大規模開発の敷地に、これほど広い面積を占める公園が誕生するのは珍しい。
今日私が見た限り、独特かつ居心地のよい公園だった。広さはさほど感じなかったものの、長くのびた空中回廊や銀色のドームなど、個性的な施設が魅力を高めていた。
公園を見渡すのにぴったりの場所がある。グランフロント大阪にある「南館テラスガーデン」だ。入場無料ながら、落ち着いてうめきたを一望できる。
うめきたとは離れた場所に立つ、大阪梅田ツインタワーズ・サウスのテラスも展望スポットを備えている。大阪駅を発着する電車や、歩道橋を行き交う人の流れが見て取れる。大阪に馴染みが薄い私だが、高層ビルから街を見下ろすことで、この街の構造を少し理解できた気がした。
On Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, I got up around 8:00 a.m. and left my hotel in Osaka City. That morning, I walked around areas near Osaka Station that had been recently developed. Osaka Station is one of the biggest transportation hubs in Japan.
One of the places I visited was a district called Umekita, located just north of the station. Although the entire development has not yet been completed, a park and several buildings have recently opened. The park, in particular, has attracted attention because it is rare to see one occupying such a large area within a major development site.
From what I saw, the park itself isn’t very large, but I found it unique and pleasant. What made it feel special, I think, was the surrounding infrastructure: a long outdoor corridor, a silver-colored dome, and low-rise buildings with restaurants.
I found a good spot to view the park: a terrace at the Grand Front Osaka. It’s free to enter and stay there.
The Osaka Umeda Twin Towers South also offers a terrace where visitors can look out over the lively district in front of Osaka Station. From there, you can see the trains arriving and departing, as well as people walking across the pedestrian bridge. Even though I’m not familiar with all the buildings in this massive city, the views from these high-rise buildings helped me get a better sense of Osaka.
