現地時間2025年9月3日（水）、午前7時半ごろに起きた。朝から、公園でボランティア活動に参加した。山火事の影響で、バンクーバーの街は霞んでいた。
作業を終えた午後、私はスタンレーパークを散歩した。歩行者や自転車が往来する脇で、シャクナゲに似た花が見頃を迎えていた。
この花から少し離れた場所には、巨大な松ぼっくりをつけた針葉樹が立っている。松ぼっくりの質感は、3Dプリンターがつくった建物のようだ。
この木の名前は、ヒマラヤスギではないかと思う。オレゴン州立大学のウェブサイトによれば、この松ぼっくりは成熟するのに2年かかるという。私が見たのは、恐らく2年目を迎えた松ぼっくりだろう。
On Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, I got up around 7:30 a.m. PDT and joined a volunteer activity at a park in the morning. Vancouver was hazy due to wildfire smoke.
After finishing the work, I took a walk in Stanley Park in the afternoon. Beside a sidewalk and a bike lane in the park, beautiful flowers were blooming, which might have been a species of rhododendron.
Continuing along the sidewalk from the spot near the flowers, visitors can see giant cones on a conifer tree. The texture of these cones looked like architecture built with a 3D printer.
I believe the tree might have been a Himalayan cedar. According to Oregon State University’s website, female cones take two years to mature. The giant cones I saw seemed to be in their second year.
