現地時間2024年9月3日（火）、午前7時ごろに起きた。午前9時ごろに家を出て、専門学校へ向かった。
専門学校で模擬面接を受けた。採用担当の社員に扮した先生と面接をして、就職活動に備える意味合いがある。事前にChatGPTと面接の練習をした甲斐あってか、模擬面接はある程度うまくいった。
質問に対して端的に答えるべきだと、先生は私に指摘した。カナダでは、人々のなかにある共通認識が少ないので、面接における説明はシンプルにすべきだと言っていた。
共通認識の少なさ、いわゆるローコンテクストについて、私は語学学校の先生からも意見を聞いたことがある。その先生は文章を書くにあたって、違う文化的背景を持つ読者に配慮し、基本的な情報であっても省略せず丁寧に書くべきだと言っていた。
この意見も、専門学校の先生の意見も筋が通っている。ただし、会話や作文の場面で、両方の考えを両立するのはなかなか難しい。

One tip he gave me was that I should have responded to his question directly. Since Canadian culture is low-context, he said that explanations during conversation should be simple.

He told me that I should avoid writing sentences with too little explanation because Canadian culture is low-context. Both opinions, from the teacher at the college and the one at the language school, make sense, but it is hard to balance both while speaking and writing.
