現地時間2025年1月2日（木）、午前5時に起きた。外出はしなかった。部屋がいつもより寒かったので、初めてヒーターをつけた。
昨日のブログで書いたように、私たちの家は虫に関する問題を抱えている。夜間、蟻のような虫が台所に現れるのだ。対策として、ホストマザーと私は昨日掃除をして、虫が入ってこないようにした。
だが対策もむなしく、今日の早朝にも同じ虫が現れた。原因は、ホストマザーが自作のケーキを台所に置いていたこと。ケーキの表面をラップで覆っていたものの、隙間から10匹ほどの虫が侵入したようだ。虫たちはケーキの表面や周りを歩き回っていた。ケーキは冷蔵庫に入れておくべきだった。
午後に確認したところ、まだ数匹の虫がケーキの周りにいた。このことをホストマザーに伝えると、彼女は躊躇なくケーキをゴミ箱に捨てた。虫との戦いはしばらく続くだろう。
On Thursday, January 2nd, 2025, I got up at 5:00 a.m. PST and didn’t go outside. It was colder than usual in my room, so I turned on the heater, which was the first time I had used it since I had moved to this house.
As I mentioned in my blog yesterday, I’m encountering a problem where bugs, possibly ants, appear during the night in the kitchen. My host mother and I cleaned the area to prevent them from coming in.
Even though we had made efforts the day before, the same bugs appeared early morning, probably because they were looking for food and found a cake that my host mother had made yesterday and left in the kitchen. About 10 insects walked around the cake, and some of them were on it. We should have put it in the fridge so that insects couldn’t detect something sweet in the kitchen.
When I observed this afternoon, some insects were still around the cake. When I told this to my host mother, she threw away the cake without hesitation. A battle between us and bugs will continue for a while.
