現地時間2024年12月30日（月）、午前11時に起床した。13時ごろに家を出て、近所の映画館へ向かった。
映画好きではない私が映画館に行ったのは、ホストマザーに誘われたからだ。ホストマザーの友人や姉妹と一緒に、映画を観た。映画のタイトルは、「A Complete Unknown」。ボブ・ディランの若かりし頃を描いた作品だ。
観る前の私は、ストーリーについていけないだろうと思っていた。英語力が十分でないからだ。予想通り、登場人物たちの会話を1割くらいしか理解できなかった。
ボブ・ディランが人気を得た当時の、社会的背景やエンターテインメントの状況もよく分かっていない。これも映画鑑賞の妨げになった。それでも、クライマックスの場面は印象に残っているし、作中で流れていた曲を楽しむこともできた。
映画の内容とは別の話だが、座席の大きさに驚いた。日本の一般的な映画館のものより大きく、フットレストがついていた。フットレストの角度は好きなように調整できる。
On Monday, December 30th, 2024, I got up at 11:00 a.m. PST and left my house around 1:00 p.m. to go to a theater near my house.
I don’t enjoy watching movies very much, but my host mother invited me to watch a film titled A Complete Unknown, which tells the story of Bob Dylan. Besides us, my host mother’s friends and sisters also came to see it.
I had thought that I wouldn’t be able to follow the story because my English skills aren’t good enough to understand what the actors say. As I predicted, I couldn’t understand what the characters were saying.
Additionally, I’m not familiar with the social context and entertainment background of the era when Bob Dylan became popular, which made it harder for me to fully enjoy the film. There were multiple factors I needed to understand in order to grasp the whole story. However, the climax of the film caught my attention, and I enjoyed the music played throughout the movie.
Besides the content of the film, I noticed that my seat was larger than the regular ones. It was soft, had a footrest, and I could adjust the angle of the footrest as I liked.
