現地時間2024年12月26日（木）、正午に起きた。昨日飲んだワインによる体の痛みが残っていた。
今日はボクシングデーという、日本では馴染みのない祝日だ。ホストマザーによると、この日は商店がセールを実施するという。CBSニュースの記事には「クリスマス翌日のイギリスの伝統的な祝日」で、「カナダやイギリス、南アフリカなどの国々では、友人と過ごしたり、買い物をしたり、スポーツ観戦をしたりして過ごす」と書いてある。
私は午後、弓道クラブのメンバーの家を訪れて、弓道の練習をした。本来の距離で矢を放つことはできないが、基礎練習は可能だった。
彼らの家に向かう道中、バスに乗った。前の家に住んでいた頃、そのバスをよく使っていた。揺れのひどさや車内の混雑ぶりは相変わらずで、落ち着くことができなかった。駅近物件である現在の家に引っ越し、バス要らずの生活に変えたのは、私にとって正しい選択だった。
On Friday, December 26th, 2024, I got up at noon PST. My body was sore from drinking wine the previous day.
Today is Boxing Day, a holiday unfamiliar in Japan. My host mother mentioned that stores have sales on this day. According to CBS News, it is “the traditionally British holiday recognized the day after Christmas,…” “People in countries like Canada, the U.K. and South Africa spend an extra day with friends, shopping or watching sports.”
In the afternoon, I visited the house of members of the Japanese archery club for practice. Although the house wasn’t suitable for full-distance shooting, we were still able to do basic practice.
On my way to their home, I took a bus I used to ride when living at my previous residence. As before, I found it difficult to relax on this bus due to the intense vibrations and crowding. I realized moving to my current house was the right choice, as its proximity to a station allows me to live without relying on buses.
