現地時間2025年2月14日（金）、午前10時半に起床。16時半ごろに家を出て、フレーザー川沿いのティン・ソルジャーの像を訪れた。
像の前で開催されるイベントに参加した。像の中にしまったタイムカプセルを、約25年の時を経て開封するというイベントだ。非常にわくわくするコンセプトで、数百人もの人が集まっていた。だが、正直なところイベントは退屈なまま終わってしまった。
イベント後、タイムカプセルの中身を近くの施設で展示していた。私は見に行きたかったが、会場が混雑しておたので諦めて家路についた。
ところで、今日はバレンタインデー。男女問わず、花束をもった人をよく見かけた。彼ら彼女らは今夜、その花束を誰かにプレゼントするのだろう。日本のバレンタインデーとは全く違う光景だった。
On Friday, February 14th, 2025, I got up at 10:30 a.m. PST and left home around 4:30 p.m. to visit the Tin Soldier by the Fraser River.
I wanted to attend an event in front of the Tin Soldier for the opening of a time capsule that had been placed there about 25 years ago. The concept sounded interesting and enjoyable, and in fact, hundreds of people gathered for the occasion. However, I found the event rather dull because the host spoke at length about topics that weren’t very engaging.
It was announced that the items from the time capsule would be displayed in a nearby facility after the event. Although I initially wanted to see them, I gave up because the venue was overcrowded.
By the way, today was Valentine’s Day. I saw many people, both men and women, carrying bouquets, probably to give them as gifts for the occasion. It felt completely different from how Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Japan.
