2025年4月18日（金）、午前7時ごろに起きた。午前8時ごろに家を出た。カナダから来た友人たちと、品川あたりで合流した。
彼らはバンクーバーの弓道クラブの仲間で、今月は日本を旅行している。帰国前日にあたる今日は、明治神宮の弓道場で弓をひく。私は日本人の友人と一緒に、彼らの手伝いをしつつ、一緒に弓をひいた。
明治神宮の広場で昼食をとった後、私たちは昼過ぎから夕方まで弓道場で練習をした。射場は広々として、とても綺麗。矢道は、緑の芝とピンクの花で覆われていた。こうした整った環境のおかげで、私たちは心地よく練習できた。
弓道場では私たち以外の人も練習しており、皆とても親切だった。弓道場の規則やスタッフの対応は、厳しすぎず緩すぎず。すべての要素が理想的だった。カナダ出身の友人たちが今日の経験をどう感じたかはわからないものの、日本人としては、明治神宮のこの素晴らしい環境を誇りに感じた。
On Friday, April 18th, 2025, I got up around 7:00 a.m. and left home at about 8:00 a.m. to meet up with some friends from Canada near Shinagawa.
They are members of the Japanese archery club in Vancouver where I used to practice, and they’ve been traveling around Japan this month. Since they were leaving the next day, they wanted to shoot arrows at the Meiji Jingu dojo—one of the most iconic places for Japanese archery. Another Japanese friend and I were happy to help them out today.
After having lunch in a park within Meiji Jingu, we visited the dojo in the afternoon and practiced until evening. The building where the archers stood was spacious and clean, and the field where the arrows flew was covered with green grass and pink flowers. The surroundings made the practice really pleasant.
The other people at the dojo were kind, and both the rules and staff struck a good balance—not too strict, not too lax. Everything about the experience felt just right to me. I’m not sure how my friends from Canada truly felt about the practice, but at the very least, I’m proud—as a Japanese person—that the Meiji Jingu dojo continues to be such a remarkable place.
