2025年4月23日（水）、午前12時半ごろに起きた。一日中家にいた。
日本にいる今、恋しく感じるのがアイスホッケーだ。カナダに住んでいたころは、NHLの試合をテレビで見ていた。でも日本では、テレビで中継していない。（少なくとも私の知る限りは）。
仕方がないので私は、プレーオフのハイライトをYouTubeで確認している。ハイライトからでも、プレーオフの盛り上がりは伝わってくるが、できれば生中継を丸々見たい。
ハイライトの動画を見ている最中、ときどき父も一緒に眺める。意外にも父はアイスホッケーのルールなどを理解している。昔は日本でもアイスホッケーをテレビで放送していたそうだ。日本でかつてこのスポーツが人気だったなんて、にわかに信じがたい。地元に「横浜GRITS」というチームがあるそうだが、私はこのチーム含め、日本で試合を一度も見たことがない。
On Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025, I got up around 12:30 p.m. and stayed home all day.
One thing I really miss about Canada is ice hockey. When I was living at home in New Westminster, I could watch NHL games on TV. But in Japan, I can’t do that unless I subscribe to something, and I don’t know how to figure that out.
So inevitably, I ended up watching recaps of each playoff game on YouTube. I wish I could watch the full games, but even just the highlights show that NHL playoff games are way more intense than regular season matches.
When I was watching the recaps, my father would sometimes sit in front of the screen too. To my surprise, he actually understands the sport and told me that ice hockey used to be broadcast on Japanese TV a long time ago. I can’t believe hockey was ever popular here—I’ve never even seen a Japanese team play, even though there’s one called the YOKOHAMA GRITS in my hometown.
