2025年4月24日（木）、13時に起きた。午後に家を出て、スケートリンクへ向かった。
訪れたのは、東神奈川駅の近くにあるスケートリンク。私は日本滞在中に、スケート技術を上達させたい。カナダに戻ったら、アイスホッケーを少しやってみたいからだ。
このような目的意識があったものの、いざリンクで滑り始めると少し気まずかった。初心者は私だけだったからだ。まわりの人たちは皆、すいすいと滑っている。その多くがフィギュアスケートを練習している人で、ジャンプやスピンなどの技を試していた。
私にとって今年日本でスケートをするのは、今日で2回目だ。前回の練習場所は、明治神宮外苑のリンクだった。2回の経験を通して、首都圏のフィギュアスケート人口の多さを実感した。特に、若い女の子がたくさん練習している印象だ。
On Thursday, April 24th, 2025, I got up around 1:00 p.m. and headed out in the afternoon to go to a skating rink in Yokohama.
One of my goals during my temporary stay in Japan is to improve my skating skills, as I want to learn the basics of ice hockey after returning to Canada.
Even though I had a clear reason to be there, I felt a bit awkward skating because I was the only beginner. Everyone else skated smoothly, and many were practicing figure skating moves like jumps and spins.
Today was my second time ice skating in Japan this year, following my first experience at a rink in Meiji Jingu Gaien. Both that day and today made me realize that there are many figure skaters—especially young girls—in the greater Tokyo area.
