2025年5月23日（金）、午前9時に起きた。午前10時半ごろに家を出て、神奈川県立川崎図書館を訪れた。
図書館での用事を済ませた後、二ヶ領用水を散歩した。二ヶ領用水は1600年代に完成した水路で、かつては農業に使われていたらしい。現在では、水路沿いの道が地元住民の散歩コースになっている。
二ヶ領用水のなかでも、私が今日歩いた区間は武蔵新城駅付近から武蔵小杉駅まで。カリンやセンダンなど、さまざまな木が植わっている。個人的には、こうした道のほうが好きだ。桜並木のような一辺倒な景色よりも、飽きずに散歩できる。
武蔵新城駅から武蔵小杉駅までの区間は、川崎市中原区の一部にあたる。二ヶ領用水にある看板いわく、中原はかつて日本有数の桃の産地だったらしい。その歴史を伝えるため、地元の団体が用水沿いに花桃の木を植え、維持管理しているとのこと。そのおかげで、私は今日初めて、木に実がなっている状態の花桃を見ることができた。
On Friday, May 23rd, 2025, I got up at 9:00 a.m. and left home around 10:30 a.m. to visit the Kanagawa Prefectural Kawasaki Library in Kawasaki City.
After finishing my tasks at the library, I strolled along part of the Nikaryo Aqueduct, a watercourse built in the 1600s that was originally used for local agriculture. Nowadays, the paths along the aqueduct are popular walking routes.
It was my first time walking the stretch from near Musashi-Shinjo Station to Musashi-Kosugi Station along the aqueduct, although I had previously hung out with a friend in another part of the area. Along today’s route, I noticed various types of trees, such as a Chinese quince and chinaberry trees. I prefer paths like this because I don’t get tired of looking at different flowers and fruits, unlike cherry blossom-lined walkways, which can feel monotonous to me.
The area I visited today is part of Nakahara Ward in Kawasaki City. According to a sign I found, Nakahara used to be one of Japan’s major peach-growing regions. To preserve this history, a local group has planted and maintained flower peach trees along the aqueduct. Thanks to their efforts, I was able to see fruits growing on a flower peach tree for the first time today.
