2025年6月16日（月）、午前10時ごろに起きた。正午前に家を出て、神奈川県大和市の図書館へ向かった。
今日訪れた大和市立図書館は新しめの施設で、2016年にオープンした。大和駅近くの文化複合施設に入っている。
広々とした建物のなかで、多くの人が読書や作業をしていた。図書館ならびにこの複合施設が様々な空間を提供しており、それが人気を呼んでいるのだろう。例を挙げると、1階にはスターバックス、2階には有料のラウンジ、3階には子ども向けの遊び場、4階にはテラスがある。
ただし、パソコン作業を歓迎するような場所ではなかった。基本的に机にはコンセントがないからだ。
パソコンを使う必要のない利用者、例えば子供たちにとっては素晴らしい環境だろう。小さな子供は遊具で遊んだり本を読んだりできるし、学生たちは試験勉強ができる。図書館とは思えないほど、漫画の蔵書が充実しており、それも子供たちには魅力的に映るかもしれない。
On Monday, June 16th, 2025, I got up around 10:00 a.m. and left home before noon to visit a library in Yamato City, Kanagawa Prefecture, for the first time.
The library, which is part of a large cultural complex, opened in 2016 near Yamato Station. I saw many people inside reading and working.
It’s easy to see why the complex attracts local residents: the building, which includes the library, is spacious and offers a variety of areas in which to spend time. There’s a Starbucks on the first floor, a paid lounge on the second, a playroom for children on the third, and a terrace on the fourth.
Although it’s not ideal for me because there are no outlets at the desks to charge a laptop, people who don’t need to use computers, such as children and teenagers, can make full use of the facility. Children can come to play and read, and students can study at the desks to prepare for exams. Interestingly, the municipal library has a surprisingly large manga collection, which can also attract many students.
