現地時間2025年7月18日（金）、午前10時に起きた。午後、外出した。家の内見をするためだ。
現在、引っ越し先を探している。今住んでいる家には満足しているけれど、ホストマザーとの約束で来月末までしかここに滞在できない。
今日見学させてもらった家は、現実的に考えて「住めるな」と感じる物件だった。寝室を2部屋備えたシェアハウスで、駅から徒歩圏内に立っている。家賃は9万円弱で、今住んでいる家よりも安い。炊飯器がついている点も、ポイントが高い。何より、大家さんがとても感じのいい人だった。
内見後、入居を申し込んだ。申し込み書類には、現在住んでいる家の大家の連絡先を書かなければいけなかった。引っ越し先の大家が、現在の大家に問い合わせるという。入居者すなわち私について、信用調査をするそうだ。私にとっては初めて経験する手続きだったが、カナダではよくあることなのかもしれない。
On Friday, July 18th, 2025, I got up at 10:00 a.m. PDT and went out in the afternoon for a private view of a house in Metro Vancouver.
Although I’m satisfied with my current place, I have to leave because my host mother is only letting me stay until the end of August. So, I’m looking for a place to move into starting this September.
The house I saw today seemed like somewhere I could live. It’s a shared house for two people, located within walking distance of a station. The rent is about CAD 800, which is cheaper than what I pay now. A rice cooker is provided, which is a big deal for me. Most importantly, the landlord seemed very nice.
Since I really want to move in there, I filled out a tenant application to submit to the landlord. The form asked me to provide my current landlord’s name and phone number as a reference, because the new landlord wants to check whether I’m a trustworthy tenant. It was the first time I had encountered this kind of request.
