On Monday, August 11th, 2025, I got up at 6:30 a.m. PDT and visited three houses I could move into starting September 1st.
In the morning, I went to two properties for viewings. One was a shared house with one bathroom for four people in total, located in a convenient area about a five-minute walk from the station. The rent was CAD 800. The other was a shared house with two bathrooms for five to seven people, located about a 15-minute walk from the station. The rent was CAD 650.
Based on this information alone, these houses—especially the first one—seemed suitable for me, as I wanted a place near a station with affordable rent. However, my opinion changed when I saw how dirty the shared spaces, such as the kitchen and bathroom, were. I hadn’t cared much about messiness before, but today’s viewings made me realize it’s an important factor.
After returning to my current home, I decided to look at more houses and quickly booked an appointment to view one that evening. The place was nearly brand new, so all the rooms were still clean. Considering that the rent was affordable, I decided to apply and was approved. I finally got my new place.
