現地時間2025年8月22日（金）、午前7時半に起きた。朝から外出した。ボランティア活動に参加した。
いつものように、外来植物の駆除に取り組んだ。今日抜いた植物には棘があった。長めの革手袋で手を保護していたとはいえ、何度か棘が服を貫通してチクッとした。
作業を終えた後、スタンレーパークを散歩した。駐車場の横に立つ1本の木が、白い花をつけていた。見事な枝ぶりと、柳のような爽やかさが印象的だった。
おそらくエンジュの木だと思う。エンジュの英名には「ジャパン」と入っているが、ミズーリ植物園のウェブサイトによると原産地は中国と韓国。日本ではないそうだ。
On Friday, August 22nd, 2025, I got up at 7:30 a.m. PDT and took part in volunteer work at a park in the morning.
The plant I removed during the work was spiny. We borrowed long leather gloves to protect our hands, but the thorns sometimes pierced through my clothes and hurt.
After the work, I walked through Stanley Park and came across a tree with white flowers standing between a parking lot and a cycling path. The tree looked refreshing, almost like a willow. The way its branches stretched out was stunning.
It might have been a Japanese pagoda tree. Even though “Japan” is in its name, the Missouri Botanical Garden’s website says that it is native to China and Korea, but not Japan.
