現地時間2025年8月27日（水）、午前7時に起きた。夕方、クイーンズボロという地区を散歩した。
この地区は、フレーザー川とアナシスチャンネルという2つの川に挟まれている。どちらの川にも橋がかかり、ニューウェストミンスター駅前の高層住宅群を眺めることができる。
緑色の実をつけた木が、アナシスチャンネルの上に張り出していた。ハンノキの一種ではないかと思う。私は以前にも同様の木を見たことがあったが、「ハンノキ」という名前を認識したのは今日が初めてだった。
クイーンズボロ地区を歩いていると、インド系と思しき人をたびたび見かけた。インドの宗教「シク教」の施設が立っていることも印象に残った。バンクーバー都市圏にインド系移民が数多く住んでいることは以前から知っていたが、今日の散歩を通じてその事実を再認識した。
On Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, I got up at 7:00 a.m. PDT and visited Queensborough, a neighborhood in New Westminster, in the evening for a walk.
The area is located between two rivers, the Fraser River and the Annacis Channel. I walked across a bridge over the Fraser River from 22nd Street Station to enter the district, and later visited another bridge over the Annacis Channel. From both bridges, I could see high-rise residential buildings near New Westminster Station glowing in the setting sun.
Branches of a tree, possibly a red alder, stretched out over the Annacis Channel. Although I had seen green cones of alders before, it was the first time I learned the name “alder.”
What struck me in Queensborough was how often I came across people who seemed to be of Indian background. The distinctive gurdwara, a Sikh temple, stood out in the area. Although I already knew that Vancouver has many immigrants from India, walking there made me feel it even more strongly.
