現地時間2026年1月31日（土）、13時ごろに起きた。夕方、弓道の練習をした。
アイスホッケーの試合を家で観た。エドモントン・オイラーズとサンノゼ・シャークスの対戦だ。第2ピリオド終了時点ではシャークスが3対0でリードしていたこの試合、オイラーズが反撃し、最終ピリオド終了のわずか1分前に追いついた。延長戦でザック・ハイマン選手がゴールを決め、オイラーズを勝利に導いた。
オイラーズは2点ビハインドの状況でエンプティネットという戦術を採用し、試合の終盤に2得点を挙げた。私は正直、エンプティネットに意義があるのかいつも懐疑的なのだが、オイラーズはこの戦術の有効性を見事に証明してみせた。
この対戦は2日前にあった。オンデマンド配信で視聴した私は、試合の劇的な展開を視聴前から知っていた。YouTubeに上がっていた、試合の動画のサムネイルを事前に目にしてしまったからだ。YouTubeに潜む、ネタバレの落とし穴にはまってしまった。
On Saturday, January 31st, 2026, I got up around 1:00 p.m. PST and practiced Japanese archery in the evening.
At home, I watched an ice hockey game between the Edmonton Oilers and the San Jose Sharks. Even though the Sharks had taken a 3–0 lead by the end of the second period, the Oilers rallied and caught up just one minute before the end of the third period. Eventually, Zach Hyman scored in overtime and led the Oilers to victory.
What surprised me in this game was that the Oilers took advantage of the empty net while trailing by two goals and scored twice at the end of the third period. Although I am generally skeptical about how effective this tactic is, they executed it perfectly.
The match was held two days ago, and I watched it via an on-demand stream. Unfortunately, a thumbnail of the video appeared on YouTube before I watched the replay, so I already knew that the Oilers had made a dramatic comeback win. That is one of the pitfalls of YouTube.
