現地時間2026年2月3日（火）、午前10時半ごろに起きた。いつもの火曜日と同様、昼にアイススケートの練習をした。
家でアイスホッケーの試合を観た。トロント・メープルリーフスとエドモントン・オイラーズの一戦だ。オーストン・マシューズ選手やコナー・マクデービッド選手といった、スタープレーヤーの活躍を楽しみにしていた。だが、この試合での彼らのプレーは、私の期待に応えるものではなかった。
その代わりに私が驚いたのは、観客の様子だ。エドモントンでの試合とは思えないほど、メープルリーフスのファンが多い印象を受けた。彼らはチームのチャントを何度も歌い、得点が入るたびに盛り上がっていた。トロントでの試合なのではないかと錯覚するような雰囲気だった。
メープルリーフスのファンは野球で言う、ニューヨーク・ヤンキースのファンや阪神タイガースのファンに近い存在なのかもしれない。
On Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026, I got up at 10:30 a.m. PST and practiced ice skating around noon, as I do every Tuesday.
At home, I watched an ice hockey game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers. Although I had expected star players from both teams, such as Auston Matthews of the Maple Leafs and Connor McDavid of the Oilers, to put on spectacular performances, their play that day was not very entertaining to me.
Instead, I was surprised by the crowd at the arena in Edmonton, because the number of Maple Leafs fans seemed huge for an away game. They apparently sang team chants loudly and repeatedly and got excited whenever their team scored, creating an atmosphere that felt like being in Toronto.
These scenes made me think that the Maple Leafs’ fanbase is similar to that of the New York Yankees in MLB or the Hanshin Tigers in Japanese professional baseball.
