現地時間2026年1月14日（水）、午前9時に起きた。午後、日本食レストランで友達と食事をした。
昼食後、レストランの近所を友人と歩いた。私たちが歩いたのは、「スティーブストン」という町だ。フレーザー川の河口沿いに位置する地区で、バンクーバーの有名な観光地の1つらしい。冬の平日だったためか、今日はあまり賑わっていなかった。
スティーブストンは漁村としての一面も持っているそうだ。私たちは、地元の漁業の歴史を紹介している「Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site」を訪れた。
缶詰工場で働いていた日本人女性の写真が、個人的には印象に残った。魚の種類についての説明を眺めた際は、魚に関する英語の語彙力のなさを実感した。
On Wednesday, January 14th, 2026, I got up around 9:00 a.m. PST and went out in the afternoon to have lunch with some friends at a Japanese restaurant in Steveston, a town located at the mouth of the Fraser River.
After having a delicious meal, I walked around the neighborhood with a friend of mine. Steveston is apparently one of the popular tourist destinations in Metro Vancouver, but it was not very bustling when we visited, possibly because it was a weekday during the winter season. The cluster of buildings along the waterfront reminded me of Granville Island.
Steveston is a fishing village, and we visited a building that exhibits the history of the local fishing industry, called the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site.
It was interesting for me to see the exhibits. For example, I found an old photograph showing Japanese women who worked at the cannery. At the same time, reading explanations about various fish species made me realize how limited my English vocabulary related to fish is.
