現地時間2024年12月10日（火）、午前7時ごろに起床した。朝、家を出て専門学校へ向かった。
電車が遅れており、授業に間に合わなかった。私が知る限り、バンクーバーの電車が遅延するのは珍しい。どうやら今回の件は、ウォーターフロント駅での停電が原因だったようだ。
授業後、友人とバンクーバーのダウンタウンを歩いた。雑貨屋などを巡った。友人が職場でのクリスマスパーティーに向けて、プレゼントを探していたからだ。
せっかくの機会なので私も、買いたいものを探してみた。最終的に買ったのは、ベイスギの玉。防虫効果があるらしい。屋久島で杉の香りに親しんだ私としては、買わずにはいられなかった。
帰り道、バラード駅前で見慣れない鳥を見かけた。外は暗く、鳥の種類を特定するのは難しかったが、近くにいた通行人がフクロウだと教えてくれた。野生のフクロウを目撃したのは、人生で初めてだった。
On Tuesday, December 10th, 2024, I got up around 7:00 a.m. PST and left for college in the morning.
The train was unusually delayed, causing me to miss class. The delay appeared to be caused by a power outage at Waterfront Station.
After class, I walked around downtown Vancouver with my friend, who was shopping for Christmas party gifts for her colleagues. While she browsed, I bought some red cedar balls for moth prevention. Being familiar with the scent of cedar from Yakushima Island, I couldn’t resist buying them.
On my way home, I spotted an unfamiliar bird near Burrard Station. It flew from the street into a tree. Though the darkness made it difficult to identify the bird, a passerby informed me that it was an owl. It was my first time seeing an owl in the wild. While I couldn’t capture a clear photo, I was able to confirm that it might be an owl from the glimpse I caught of its distinctive face.
