現地時間2024年12月23日（月）、午前11時半頃に起床。昼過ぎに家を出て、バンクーバーのダウンタウンへ向かった。
コロンビア出身の友人と待ち合わせ、ロブソンスクエアのアイスリンクを訪れた。私にとって、カナダでスケートをするのは今日が初めてだ。
リンクは小さく、大変混みあっていた。かつて訪れた、横浜の赤レンガ倉庫前のリンクを思い出した。ロブソンスクエアのリンクでは入場料がかからず、靴のレンタル料はたった5カナダドル。立地も抜群で、混雑しているのは当然だ。
滑り始める前は、ある程度上手くできると思っていた。長野でスケートをした昨冬の記憶が残っていたからだ。だが実際、今日滑ってみると思ったほどうまくいかず、友人の方が上手だった。
On Monday, December 23rd, 2024, I got up around 11:30 a.m. PST and left home in the afternoon for downtown Vancouver.
After meeting my Colombian friend there, I visited the Robson Square Ice Rink with her. It was my first time ice skating in Canada.
The small rink was crowded, which reminded me of the skating rink in front of Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse in Japan. The crowd was understandable, given that skating was free and skate rental cost only 5 Canadian dollars.
Although I had expected to skate well based on my experience last winter in Nagano, Japan, I didn’t perform as well as I had anticipated. My friend turned out to be more skilled than I was.
