現地時間2024年12月13日（金）、午前11時ごろに起床した。
ホストマザーが、今年送るクリスマスカードを見せてくれた。今年は約10人に渡す予定だという。
カナダポストでのストライキについても教えてくれた。ホストマザーは、ストライキの影響で請求書が自宅に届かず困っているそうだ。日本出身の私からすると、郵便事業を担う会社においてストライキが発生しているというのは、なかなか信じがたい。
特に驚くのはストライキの長さだ。CBCによると、「（2024年）11月15日に、5万5000人のカナダポスト職員がストライキに入った」とのこと。カナダポストは11月25日の時点で、「全国的なストライキにより、郵便物や小包の処理・配達が停止し、一部の郵便局が閉鎖されている」と発表している。
ただし、すべての郵便局が閉鎖されているわけではないようだ。今日の午後、近所の郵便局の前を歩いたところ、そこの郵便局は営業しているようだった。
On Friday, December 13th, 2024, I got up around 11:00 a.m. PST.
I saw a Christmas card my host mother had prepared to send. She plans to give cards to about 10 people this year. She also mentioned having trouble receiving bills due to the Canada Post strike. This was shocking to me, as I had never heard of Japan Post workers going on strike.
What particularly surprised me was the duration of the strike. According to CBC, “On Nov. 15, 55,000 Canada Post workers went on strike”. Canada Post announced on November 25 that “Given the national strike, mail and parcels have not been processed or delivered, and some post offices remain closed.”
However, not all offices might be closed. The post office near my house appeared to be open when I walked around the neighborhood today.
