現地時間2025年1月10日（金）、正午に起きた。いまだに、家のなかで蟻を見かける。数日前、ホストマザーと一緒に巣のようなものを見つけて、大量の蟻を一挙に捨てたものの、駆逐はできていない。
ショッピングモールで食料品を買うため、午後に外出した。先月のどんよりとした天気と違い、最近は晴れている。今日の空はまるで冬の東京のようだった。
食料品店のほか、ショッピングモールでは本屋にも立ち寄った。先住民に関する書籍を探したが、見つからなかった。歴史関連の本があるコーナーを重点的に探したが、そこでは戦争についての本が目立っていた。
書店の一角には漫画のコーナーがあり、日本の漫画もたくさん置いてある。漫画コーナーはほかと比べて賑わっており、主に若者が来ていた。立ち読みではなく、椅子に腰かけ漫画を読んでいる人もいた。漫画の人気は、バンクーバーも日本も共通しているようだ。
On Friday, January 10th, 2025, I got up at noon PST. Ants were still appearing in my house, even though my host mother and I had found something that looked like their nest and thrown it away a few days ago.
In the afternoon, I went out and visited a grocery store. It had been sunny recently, and today’s sky reminded me of winter weather in Tokyo.
I also visited a bookstore in a mall. Although I tried to find books about Indigenous people, I couldn’t find any there. In the historical section of the store, books related to war stood out.
In one part of the shop, there was a section selling comics, including Japanese manga. It was relatively busy compared to other sections. Young people, in particular, gathered there. Some were sitting on chairs and reading. The popularity of comics seemed to be common both here and in Japan.
