現地時間2025年3月15日（土）、午前11時ごろに起きた。13時ごろに家を出て、ホストマザーと一緒に出かけた。
私たちは、ニューウェストミンスターの隣にあるサレーを訪れた。無料の音楽フェス「Let’s Hear It BC JUNOS Plaza Party」に参加するためだ。私は弓道の練習があったので、少しの時間しか滞在できなかったが、ホストマザーとその友人は存分に楽しんだという。
駅前の広場・建物に、いくつかのステージが設置されていた。私が鑑賞したのは、図書館内での演奏。個人的には、「図書館＝静かに過ごす場所」というイメージがあるので、そうした場所でコンサートを開催していることに驚いた。歌手が披露していたのは、落ち着いた曲調の音楽ではなく、むしろ明るい雰囲気の曲だった。
今回訪れた図書館は、サレーにいくつかある図書館のなかのシティーセンター支所。ホストマザーお薦めの場所だ。巨大な吹き抜けと白い内壁が、心地よい空間をつくりだしていた。
On Saturday, March 15, 2025, I got up around 11:00 a.m. PDT. I left home around 1:00 p.m. with my host mother.
We visited Surrey to attend a free music festival, the Let’s Hear It BC JUNOS Plaza Party, which my host mother had told me about. Since I had to go to Japanese archery practice in the afternoon, I could only stay for a short time, while she and her friend enjoyed it thoroughly.
In front of a SkyTrain station, several stages were set up both indoors and outdoors. The stage I watched was inside a library. I usually associate libraries with silence, so having a concert inside one was quite surprising. The music played there wasn’t calm or ambient, which I expected to match the library atmosphere, but rather lively and upbeat.
The library we visited was Surrey Libraries – City Centre Branch, which my host mother had recommended. As she said, it was a comfortable place to be, with its spacious atrium and bright white walls creating a relaxing atmosphere for visitors.
