現地時間2025年3月18日（火）、午前4時ごろに起きた。午前7時に自宅を出発し、カナダでの1人旅を始めた。
今回の旅行ではエドモントンを目指す。バンクーバーとエドモントンを結ぶ直行バスが見つからなかったため、まずカルガリーへバスで向かう。カルガリーで一泊した後、明日は別のバスでカルガリーからエドモントンへ移動する予定だ。
バンクーバーからエドモントンまで飛行機に乗れば、2時間もかからない。それなのに、なぜバスを選んだのか。大きな理由はバスが比較的安いからだ。さらにバスは飛行機と違い、道中で景色を楽しむことができる。
車窓から見える景色は予想通り素晴らしかった。特に、コキハラ・サミット・レクリエーション・エリア周辺、グレイシャー国立公園周辺、ゴールデン周辺では、雄大な山岳風景が広がっていた。長野もしくは青森といったあたりの山並みを思い出したものの、それらと今日見た景色が一致するわけではない。理由はよく分からないが、針葉樹の種類もしくは地質が違うことで、景色にも違いが生まれるのではないかと推測している。
On Tuesday, March 18th, 2025, I got up around 4:00 a.m. PDT. I left home at 7:00 a.m. to begin my trip.
On this trip, I will visit Edmonton by bus. Since I couldn’t find a direct bus route between Vancouver and Edmonton, I took a bus from Vancouver to Calgary, where I stayed for the night. Tomorrow, I will take another bus from Calgary to Edmonton.
Why did I choose to take a bus instead of a plane, even though a flight between Vancouver and Edmonton takes less than two hours. The reason is that buses are cheaper than planes and give me the opportunity to see scenery in regions outside Edmonton.
As I had expected, the view from my bus seat was amazing. I saw majestic mountain landscapes, such as those around the Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area, Glacier National Park in Canada, and Golden. These landscapes reminded me of the mountainous regions of Aomori and Nagano. However, for some reason, what I saw today felt different from Japan. I think the difference comes from the types of coniferous trees and the unique geological features.
