現地時間2025年3月19日（水）、午前8時に起きた。カルガリーのホテルを出てエドモントンへ向かった。
乗ったバスは午前10時半ごろにカルガリーを出発。15時ごろ、エドモントンの市街地に到着した。車窓から見た限り、両都市の間には平野が広がっていた。昨日、バンクーバー〜カルガリー間で見た山岳地帯とは対照的だった。
今日の夜は、エドモントンの弓道クラブで練習に参加させてもらった。クラブの皆さんは温かく私を迎え入れてくれた。
カルガリーとエドモントンでは、アメリカカササギという鳥が印象に残った。私にとっては初めて見る鳥だ。白黒の体をもつこの鳥を、両都市のまちなかでよく見かけた。鳴き声は美しいとは言えない。飛ぶのはあまり速くないように感じた。
On Wednesday, March 19th, 2025, I got up at 8:00 a.m. MDT and left a hotel in Calgary to go to Edmonton.
The bus I took departed from Calgary around 10:30 a.m. and arrived in downtown Edmonton around 3:00 p.m. From what I saw from the bus, the areas between the two cities were open fields, which contrasted with the mountainous regions I had seen yesterday between Vancouver and Calgary.
That night, the Japanese archery club in Edmonton kindly let me join their practice. I was impressed by their deep dedication to the martial art, and they welcomed me warmly.
What impressed me most in both Calgary and Edmonton today was spotting birds I had never seen before, called Black-billed Magpies. I often saw these black-and-white birds in urban areas of both cities. Their calls didn’t sound pleasant, and I got the impression that they were not fast flyers.
