2025年3月27日（木）、16時ごろに成田空港に到着した。父が迎えに来てくれて、車で家まで送ってくれた。
搭乗したのは日本航空（JAL）の便。私にとって、JALの国際線を利用するのは今回が初めてだ。普段の海外旅行ならJALやANAは費用がかさむので避けるが、今回の便は意外にも安く、約666カナダドルだった。
機内では心地よく過ごすことができた。その一例が機内食。鶏肉、米、サラダ、肉じゃが、果物が入った、美味しい食事を提供していただいた。出発前にバンクーバーの空港で買った果物が一部傷んでいただけに、機内食の美味しさがより一層ありがたく感じた。
食事中の私に対して、客室乗務員が「温かいお茶はいかがですか？」と尋ねてきた。フライトの序盤に私が温かいお茶を注文したことを、その客室乗務員は覚えており、このようなサービスをしてくれたのだろう。気配りのレベルの高さに驚いた。
設備についていえば、温水洗浄便座のトイレが機内にあった。日本国内で温水洗浄便座があるのは当たり前だが、カナダでは見たことがない。まだ成田空港に到着していない、機内にいる段階でも、日本の良さを感じることができた。
On Thursday, March 27th, 2025, I arrived at Narita Airport, Japan, around 4:00 p.m. My father picked me up and drove me home.
The plane I took was operated by Japan Airlines. It was my first time flying internationally with JAL. I usually avoid JAL and ANA because they are expensive, but the flight I took today was surprisingly cheap—about 666 CAD.
The service I received on the plane exceeded my expectations. The meal, which included chicken, rice, salad, fruit, and nikujaga, was delicious. Since some of the fruit I bought at the Vancouver International Airport was partly rotten, I was even happier to have fresh and tasty fruit on the plane.
A cabin attendant asked only me if I would like a cup of hot tea while eating. She might have remembered that I ordered hot tea at the beginning of the flight and preferred it over cold beverages. Her attentiveness was on another level.
As for the facilities, the washroom had a bidet seat, which I had never seen in Canada. The services and amenities I experienced in the air reflected the strengths of Japan, even though I hadn’t landed in the country yet.
