2025年4月2日（水）、午前8時に起きた。午前10時、安曇野市の自宅を出発し、近くの温泉へ向かった。家の風呂が使えないので、外で風呂に入るしかない。
午後、近所の図書館を訪れた。パソコン作業をするつもりだった。だが、館内にパソコンを持ち込み使用することが禁止されていたので、図書館と同じ建物内にあるカフェで作業した。
外観も室内も小綺麗な建物だ。安曇野市の公共施設は立派で、市役所も居心地がいい。
この図書館の前には芝生の広場がある。春休み中と思しき小学生くらいの子どもたちが、サッカーや鬼ごっこなどをして遊んでいた。親の付き添いなしで遊ぶ光景は、日本の伝統の1つだと思う。自分が見た限り、バンクーバーにおいては一般的な光景ではない気がする。
On Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025, I got up at 8:00 a.m. and left home in Azumino, Nagano, at 10:00 a.m. to go to a public bath because the bathroom at home was out of use.
In the afternoon, I visited a library in my neighborhood. I had planned to write documents using my computer there, but I couldn’t because using a computer at a desk was prohibited. So, I worked at a café in the same building instead.
The exterior and interior of the building that houses both the library and the café were clean and pretty. Not only the architecture but also the city hall felt like a pleasant place to be.
There is a grassy square in front of the library. Children—likely elementary school students on spring break—were gathering there, playing games like soccer and tag. I believe that children playing outside without their parents is a cultural norm in Japan, which is uncommon in Vancouver, based on what I’ve observed.
