2025年4月30日（水）、午前1時に起きて、午前4時半ごろに宿を出た。キョンかリス、どちらかであろう動物の物音を耳にしながら、伊豆大島を歩いた。外輪山の展望台まで歩くつもりだったが、体調が悪くたどり着けなかった。
展望台に向かう途中の地点で、休むことにした。見晴らしがよい場所で、伊豆大島の街並み、相模灘、伊豆半島、富士山を見渡すことができた。時間が経つにつれて太陽が昇り、街が次第に明るくなっていった。
休憩していた場所はうっそうとした森のそばで、ウグイスの鳴き声が響き渡っていた。なかなか見ることができない、ウグイスの姿を目撃できて、私は大満足だった。その後、島の海岸まで下りていくと、そこでは海辺を歩くコチドリを目にした。
散歩を終えた後、船に乗った。船は午前10時ごろに出航。正午、東京の竹芝に到着した。
On Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, I got up at 1:00 a.m. and left my hotel around 4:30 a.m. to walk on Izu Oshima Island, hearing sounds that might have come from a Reeves’s muntjac or a squirrel. Although I had intended to reach a mountain lookout point, I was unable to do so because I felt unwell that morning—probably due to spending too much time in a hot spring the night before and experiencing hot water shock.
Instead of visiting the lookout, I rested at a spot halfway up the mountain. From there, I enjoyed a majestic view of the island town, the Sagaminada Sea, the Izu Peninsula, and Mt. Fuji. As time passed and the sun rose, the town along the coast gradually brightened.
While resting at the spot near the forest, I repeatedly heard the songs of Japanese bush warblers. Fortunately, I even managed to catch a glimpse of their usually elusive bodies. Later, after descending to the coast, I spotted a Little Ringed Plover walking along the shoreline.
After wandering through the forests and along the sea, I boarded a ferry to return to mainland Japan. The ferry departed around 10:00 a.m. and arrived at Takeshiba, Tokyo, at noon.
