On Monday, May 12th, 2025, I got up around 9:00 a.m. and left home in the evening to go to Kannai Station in Yokohama.
The reason I went there was that there’s a large bookstore nearby. I wanted to buy One Hundred Mountains of Japan by Kyuya Fukada, since a friend of mine who enjoys hiking had given a presentation on it the day before.
Fortunately, the store had the book in stock, and I bought it. Among the 100 mountains listed in the book, I read the sections about the ones I’m somewhat familiar with. The section about Mt. Jonendake was especially impressive. I would like to observe the 2,857-meter peak more carefully than I did last time, when I saw the mountain from Azumino, Nagano.
Although physical bookstores have less stock than online stores, visiting them in person offers the chance to come across books I didn’t intend to buy but find interesting. Today, for example, I discovered books with information about mountains that are easily accessible from the Kanto region. I ended up buying one of them, as it will be useful not only for me but also for my father, who lives in Kanagawa Prefecture.
