2025年5月20日（火）、午前10時半に起きた。午前11時半ごろに家を出て、初めて神奈川県立川崎図書館を訪れた。建築雑誌などを眺めた。
神奈川県立川崎図書館は、一般的な図書館と一線を画す。一般の人があまり興味を示さないであろう、科学・工学分野の本がたくさん並んでいる。自分が通っていた大学の図書館のようだった。この県立図書館には、いろいろな企業の社史を集めた、珍しいコーナーもある。
以前のブログで触れたように、私は県立図書館のもう1つの施設を最近訪れた。横浜にある図書館で、この施設は2022年に新しい建物がオープンした。今日訪れた県立図書館は川崎市高津区にある施設で、2018年にこの地に移転してきた。
以前のブログや今回のブログで書いたように、どちらの県立図書館も独自性の高い図書館だ。個人的にはどちらも素晴らしい公共施設だと思う。
On Tuesday, May 20th, 2025, I got up at 10:30 a.m. and left home around 11:30 a.m. to visit the Kanagawa Prefectural Kawasaki Library for the first time. I expected the library to carry architecture magazines, and indeed, I found them there.
The Kanagawa Prefectural Kawasaki Library differs from a typical local public library. Its shelves are filled with books that would interest only experts or students in scientific and engineering fields, rather than the general public. It reminded me of the university library where I studied. Additionally, this prefectural library has a unique section dedicated to a large collection of corporate histories.
As I mentioned in a recent blog post, I have also visited another branch of the Kanagawa Prefectural Library located in Yokohama, the largest city in the prefecture. That library moved into a new building in 2022. The library I visited today is in Kawasaki, the second-largest city in the prefecture, and its current facility opened in 2018.
After visiting both libraries, I realized that each strives to offer distinctive features not usually emphasized by city libraries. I fully support the direction these prefectural libraries are taking.
