2025年5月28日（水）、午前11時に起きた。14時ごろに家を出て、横浜市鶴見区にある「馬場花木園」を初めて訪れた。
入場無料とは到底思えないほど、美しく整備された公園だった。池や東屋、茶室を備えた和風庭園が来訪者を出迎え、その奥には古民家や雑木林などがある。年配の夫婦などが園内の花をゆっくりと眺め、学校帰りに遊ぶ小学生の姿もあった。
園内にはさまざまな木が植わっている。そのうちのいくつかは開花時期を迎えており、その一例がヒメシャラだ。赤みがかった樹皮が特徴的なこの木は白い花をつける。個人的にはチャノキの花に似ていると思う。その他には、アンズやボケなどが実をつけていた。
クリの花やビワの実も見ることができた。これらはこの時期、民家の庭もしくは道路の傍など、公園の外でも目立っている。
On Wednesday, May 28th, 2025, I got up at 11:00 a.m. and left my home around 2:00 p.m. to visit a flower garden called Baba Kabokuen in Yokohama for the first time.
Although the garden has no entrance fee, it offers a beautiful Japanese-style landscape with a pond, a gazebo, and a tea house. That evening, elderly couples were admiring the flowers, and three elementary school girls were playing in an open grassy field.
A wide variety of trees are planted in the garden, and some of them were blooming that day. For example, the himeshara tree, known for its reddish unique bark, had white flowers that reminded me of those on a tea plant. Other trees, such as apricots and flowering quince, also bore fruits.
I also saw chestnut flowers and loquat fruits in the park. These could be found in residential areas as well, like in someone’s garden or along the streets, on my way to the park.
